Meet the Fed’s 2010 Leadership

Edward B. Robin, Vice Chair of the Board

Edward Robin was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He graduated with a B.A. from the University of Florida and received an LL.B. from Duke Law School. Following law school, Ed moved to Los Angeles and became an attorney with the National Labor Relations Board. He was subsequently in the private practice of law in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles until 1985, when he became a principal of NAS Insurance Services, which he had helped establish. NAS focuses on the development, sale and administration of specialty insurance products, substantially in collaboration with underwriters at Lloyds of London. He currently serves as Chairman of the company, of which his son Rich is now CEO.

Ed has long and varied experience in the Jewish community of Los Angeles, nationally and internationally. He has chaired the national UJA Young Leadership Cabinet, the North American Jewish Forum, the Center for Policy Options, and NCSJ, Advocates on behalf of Jews in Russia, Ukraine, the Baltic States and Eurasia. He has served on the Boards of JDC, UJA CJF and American Jewish University, and as a member of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. He had major involvement in the Soviet Jewry movement, including co-chairmanship of Freedom Sunday, when 250,000 Americans gathered on the Mall in Washington at the time of the Reagan-Gorbachev summit. He currently serves on the Board of the World Jewish Restitution Organization.

Much of Ed’s activity has centered around or been enabled by involvement in The Jewish Federation. He is currently the Vice Chair of the Federation, and has served as Vice Chair of UJF, Chair of Leadership Development, Chair of the Legal Services Division, founding Chair of the Israel and Overseas Committee, and other positions. He has led numerous missions, including chairing the campaign’s Chador program and the Federation’s first large community mission, with 400 participants in 1993.

He is a long-time resident of Encino and member of Valley Beth Shalom. He is married to Peggy, who is Valley Alliance Associate Co-Chair of Lion of Judah. They have 2 children and 7 grandchildren, all of whom are involved in Jewish life.
