The Jewish Federation Helps Keep Synagogues Safe

For the third year, The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles designated $150,000 to provide grants for small synagogues needing assistance with security costs associated with the High Holidays.

Local congregations of up to 250-member families were eligible for grants in the amount of $1,000 per congregation. These grants are part of a broader Federation effort to enhance and coordinate security at Jewish community institutions throughout Los Angeles. Without the grants, many smaller synagogues would have a difficult time providing the level of security required during this time of year.

“We know that security concerns are uppermost in many congregants’ minds this time of the year,” said Federation President John Fishel. “The Federation wants to provide tangible support to our local synagogues who may find it challenging to fund all the security they need.”
